Types of Medicare Plans

Part A

Part A Medicare coverage is designed to help cover the costs of inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care and home health care. This coverage pays for hospital stays, post-hospital skilled nursing facility care, and some home health care services. Part A Medicare also helps cover the costs of hospice care for individuals with a terminal illness and their families. Part A Medicare also covers the cost of certain medical equipment, such as wheelchairs and walkers, as well as some home health care services. With Part A Medicare coverage, individuals can rest assured that they will receive quality care in the comfort of their own home.

Part B

Part B Medicare coverage helps cover medically necessary services and preventive services such as doctor visits, laboratory tests, and outpatient care. It also covers some medical equipment and home health care. Part B also helps cover preventive services like flu shots and screenings for conditions like cancer and diabetes. In addition, Part B helps pay for some mental health services, including therapy and counseling. Medicare beneficiaries are responsible for paying a monthly premium and may have to pay a deductible and coinsurance as part of their Part B coverage.

Part C

Part C Medicare coverage, also known as Medicare Advantage, is a type of health insurance plan offered by private health insurance companies that contract with Medicare. It covers all of the services that are offered in Original Medicare, as well as additional services such as vision, hearing, dental, and health and wellness programs. Part C Medicare coverage plans may also offer prescription drug coverage, which is not covered by Original Medicare. Depending on the plan, out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles and copayments may vary. It is important to review the details of the plan to make sure that it meets your needs.

Part D

Part D is a type of Medicare insurance that helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. It is available through private insurance companies that are approved by Medicare. Part D may help pay for both brand-name and generic drugs, as well as other prescription medications. It also may help with costs associated with getting your prescription filled, such as copays or coinsurance. Enrolling in Part D is voluntary, but if you don’t enroll when you’re first eligible, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty. There is also a coverage gap (also known as the "donut hole") where patients may have to pay a higher percentage of their medication costs until they reach a certain out-of-pocket limit.

Medicare Supplement/Medigap

Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement Insurance, is a type of private health insurance that helps cover the gaps in Original Medicare. It is designed to provide additional coverage for costs such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance that are not covered by Medicare Part A and Part B.
Medigap policies are sold by private insurance companies and are standardized across different states. This means that the benefits offered by each plan are the same regardless of which insurance company you choose. However, the premiums may vary depending on factors such as your age, location, and health status.
Having a Medigap policy can provide peace of mind by reducing out-of-pocket expenses and giving you more control over your healthcare costs. It is important to note that Medigap policies do not cover prescription drugs, so if you need prescription drug coverage, you will need to enroll in a separate Medicare Part D plan.
